Installation and Set-Up: Updating the Gateway Firmware

chip

NOTE:

As shown in the video, you can get a simple  USB to mini-USB cable (like many that come with cameras, MP3 players, etc. and are available at places like OfficeMax, Office Depot, BestBuy and the like for $3-$6) and connect the DashBoss Gateway to your PC or Mac’s USB ports. Once you’ve done that, you can follow the video procedure for updating the firmware for your operating system.

USB Connection for Firmware Upgrade

Ensure that you get three flashes of all the LEDs after you have REFLASHED THE GATEWAY and once you plug it into the car again (that is the hardware/firmware diagnostic routine).  If you don’t get the 3 flashes and normal behavior, unplug the gateway, wait 5 seconds and repeat.  If it only shows a Red or a Yellow LED, then the flash may be corrupt (usually because a failure to EJECT cleanly in Windows).

Updating Firmware on the Gateway Module

Mac OSX® DashBoss Upgrader App

This is used to update your Gateway firmware using a Mac®

Download the ZIP file (HERE) and extract it in a folder that is easy to find. To update your gateway, perform the following:

  1. Plug your Gateway into an available USB port and verify the RED LED next to the USB plug lights up. You will also see a solid YELLOW LED and a blinking YELLOW LED which indicates the gateway is mounted on the USB connection.
  2. Verify the Gateway shows up as a removable drive and that the file “DELETEME.dhx” is on it
  3. DOWNLOAD THE DASHBOSS UPGRADER APP to your Mac Desktop and unzip it
  4. Double click on the App and follow the prompts
  5. When told to by the App, unplug the Gateway from the USB cable.

NOTE:  You will see always see DELETEME.dhx every time you plug in the gateway.  It’s not a “real” file, but a placeholder.

Windows® DashBoss Upgrader App

This is used to update your Gateway firmware using a PC®

Perform the following:

  1. Plug your Gateway into an available USB port and verify the RED LED next to the USB plug lights up. You will also see a solid YELLOW LED and a blinking YELLOW LED which indicates the gateway is mounted on the USB connection.
  2. Verify the Gateway shows up as a removable drive (you may have to dismiss a auto content dialog thats asks what you want to do with it)
  3. Download the Upgrader App (HERE) and run it after it is installed (as shown in the video)
  4. Simply follow the prompts from the wizard! That’s it!
  5. EJECT the Gateway removable drive to be sure everything “flushes” to the gateway correctly ( right click on the drive and choose “EJECT”)
  6. Now Unplug the Gateway

NOTE: We’ve seen a couple of instances of Windows “hanging on” to the drive for quite a while after you run the wizard giving an error that it can’t eject because it’s “still in use”.

If that happens:

Close ALL the open windows.

On your task bar (right hand side) find the “safely remove hardware” icon (looks like a USB cable end).

NOTE:  You will see always see DELETEME.dhx every time you plug in the gateway.  It’s not a “real” file, but a placeholder.
