A little history …

This is an excerpt from an interview for an upcoming article in a performance magazine …

What prompted you to develop this product?

We saw a need for a portable, wireless and reliable performance monitor and scanner system. The Apple iOS products were just getting off the ground and we took the “path not followed” and decided to go through the Apple certification process to do a full Bluetooth solution. This provided security, a solid connection, and the ability to auto connect (just like headphones or your in-car handsfree system) without having to fiddle with configuring and connecting the device all the time.

So, we made the investment in time and engineering effort to go through the entire certification process with Apple and become a certified provider. In addition, we designed and built our hardware. The firmware is fully customizable by us … we do not have the constraints of using off the shelf OBD chipsets like the competitors. The bluetooth is also MUCH more user friendly and less “fiddily” than WiFi solutions.

It is also easily transportable between vehicles, if necessary and will work with a wide range of vehicles. So you can use it to monitor your tow vehicle on the way to the track, plug it into the “go fast car” at the course/track, a couple taps and you’re good for a day of playing!

If you decide to leave it in just one vehicle, it is smart enough to go into a deep sleep when not in use, so as not to drain the battery. You don’t have to unplug it unless the vehicle sits for many weeks at a time without being started or being attached to a battery tender.

What were your goals for it? Who is the ideal user and why would this be a better choice than competing products?

To take over the world! *grin* Seriously though … anybody who doesn’t want a bunch of gauges or permanently mounted monitors can really appreciate how easy this is to use to monitor, gather log data and measure vehicle performance (such as 0-60, 1/4 mile, and horsepower). We also provide weather data and WEATHER CORRECTED results for the performance tests. This makes it really easy to compare runs and eliminate altitude/temperature/air conditions from the results. The other major thing is we are enthusiasts ourselves … we listen and adapt the product based on feedback from our users. We have contacts and equipment that allows us to add more parameters and data items fairly quickly, and have a very active Beta community that is very good at picking out stuff and helping us to get things in shape for release. We have spent a lot of time with the GM guys in the past, so there’s a TON of unique parameters and GM specific functions (such as the CASE relearn). We’ve spent a boatload of time recently with the PowerStroke diesel folks getting stuff incorporated for them.

One big thing we offer is EXTERNAL sensor integration, which is unique to my knowledge. We have an easy way to add an external 0-5 volt input. The Vette folks may want to add their Wide Band O2 Controller, and we can accommodate that (and provide a method to tweak the input curves to match the sensor/controller they are using …or we sell the DynoJet WideBand 2 as well). The diesel guys are using the EGT sensors and an industrial pressure sensor as inputs.

Is this Apple-only or can it be used on Android?

At the moment, it’s Apple only, but we’re in the planning stages for a possible Android product.
